12 Days of Christmas: Help CWC continue testing Indian River Lagoon for enteric bacteria

CWC

Every Monday morning for the past 11 months, the Clean Water Coalition of Indian River County collects water samples from three locations near the Indian River Lagoon.

What are they testing for? Harmful enteric bacteria, a sign of fecal pollution in water. In the past almost year of testing and analyzing the samples, the environmental group has found high levels of fecal matter in the lagoon.

"What we’re trying to do is continue to bring awareness," said Paul Fafeita, president of the coalition. "The lagoon is in sad shape and there are a number of things that need to be done to help it along its way."

For the organization's "12 Days of Christmas" wish, staff is asking for donations to continue the water sampling, which Fafeita said is a "costly operation."
